Río Glaciar (Glacial River)

Tania Ximena.

LLANO is pleased to present Río Glaciar (Glacial River) the second individual exhibition of the Mexican artist Tania Ximena (Veracruz, MX – 1985, Lives and works between Mexico City and San Pedro Nexapa) in our space in Mexico City.

What for some is greening, for others is a flood; In the near future the polar caps will melt, the transition from white to green will cause a significant rise in the sea and part of Mexico will become underwater. Marcha Liquénica (Lichen March) is a project that speculates on resilience and adaptation to a new way of inhabiting the world, seeking to bring us closer to the Antarctic continent in relation to Mexico. Río Glaciar is the first installment of this long-term project.

The exhibition brings together two large-format suspended paintings, the first referring to the artist’s recent residency on the Antarctic continent, with brief white tones completed by the infrared generated by the excessive contact of sunlight on the ice layers. The second approaches the Centla swamps in the state of Tabasco. Area of the country where the ravages of rising sea levels are beginning to be experienced.

Opening this February 3 within the framework of Mexico City Art Week, the exhibition can be visited from Tuesday to Saturday until March 23, 2024.
